This cover for an updated edition of RitaSue Siegal’s career guidebook is aimed to catch the eye of educated but inexperienced design industry newcomers. The affably bold and modern Gill Sans typeface provides a grounded foundation for the book’s title treatment, even floating within a tongue-in-cheek cartoon speech bubble. A Ben-Day dot pattern adds subtle texture to the background and directs eye movement between subtitle and author, while reinforcing the stylistic nod to comic books and Pop Art.

In formatting the interior of this career guidebook, the challenge was to navigate the reader through a variety of sections, subsections, lists and worksheet with an easy to follow hierarchical system. Justified paragraph text was used to reinforce the underlying grid structure, while clearly defined headings, dividers, and a chapter-progressing tab system provide consistent visual support to the informative content.
